Waterfowl for Warriors

Organizers / Sponsors

The Waterfowl for Warriors hunting program is organized by volunteers from local law enforcement agencies, American Legion, Fire Department, and hunting enthusiasts. The program is provided by the City of Anoka and sponsored by many great local businesses and organizations as a thank you to local Veterans and active Military members.

We cannot thank our Nation’s military men and women enough. Without their sacrifices we would not have the ability to truly understand what freedom is.

Hunting Location

The Anoka Nature Preserve, a unique 200 acre open space along the Rum River,  at the northern border of Anoka provides the perfect locations for both a field and over-water hunting experience.  Groups are split into 2 groups on the day of the hunt and escorted out to either the water or field location; approximately halfway through the morning, the groups change locations.  Hunting begins 30 min before sunrise and concludes about 11:30am.

Youth - Waterfowl Hunting Program

The Youth Waterfowl for Warriors hunting program is for the sons, daughters and grandchildren of active Military Service Members or Veterans. Youth ages 10 to 17 are eligible to participate. Firearm safety certification is required for youth age 13 to 15 years. A non-hunting adult chaperone must accompany the youth during the hunt.

Participants will experience a guided hunt with mentoring as needed in both a field and shoreline location within the Anoka Nature Preserve.

The Youth Waterfowl for Warriors Hunting activity will take place during the MN DNR Youth Waterfowl Hunting Weekend and will be held in the Anoka Nature Preserve.   Registration is required.  Youth must be a close relation to military member or Veteran to participate.

Support the Waterfowl for Warrior Program

The City of Anoka has an aluminum can collection trailer available at Grey Ghost Fields (559 Castle Field Blvd).  Proceeds from the aluminum go directly to support this program.  Annually, we receive about $500 annually from the trailer.  A second can collection trailer should be available this October at the East Liquor Store.

Merchandise is also available for purchase at each hunt, at Anoka City Hall, and through emailing an order form. Proceeds from merchandise sales go toward the Waterfowl for Warriors program.  Hooded sweatshirts, t-shirts, hats, can koozies and more are available. Contact Lisa for details on what is available.

Monetary contributions are always welcome and appreciated. Your company logo or name will be included in the list of our valued sponsors (here on the website, facebook and on program flyers).  All funds received stay with the program and are used to pay for the post hunt lunch, bug spray, and equipment used for the hunts.

Company Promotional Items/Donations - items such as travel mugs, hats, anything camo, coolers, hunting / outdoor gear, camping, clothing, etc are always appreciated! These items are used as prize drawings at the conclusion of the hunting days as another way to say thank you to our Veterans, Military Service Men/Women, and First Responders.  Donors will be recognized on this website, facebook and on program flyers.
