AKIN RIVERSIDE PARK - 1721 River Ave
This park is long and linear, extending from the Boat Launch to to Bridge Square. The park includes a walking trail with scenic views of the Rum River, a playground, picnic shelter with restrooms and a fishing pier.
ANOKA NATURE PRESERVE (ANP) - 4299 Parkview Ln
This 200-acre park features a playground and parking lot at the trailhead, dense forest with natural unimproved trails, wetland backwaters, a variety of wildlife, and almost a mile of Rum River shoreline (a federally designated “Wild and Scenic River”). Approximately three miles of graveled walking, biking, and hiking trails are available within the preserve. In the winter, these trails are groomed for the shared use of cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and walking.
BRAVO PARK - 2901 4th Ave
Formerly known as Station Park, the park was renamed in 2025 to honor Bravo, a former, highly decorated, Anoka Police K9 Officer. This park located along the Rum River Regional Trail and offers a unique nature inspired playground and picnic shelter that seats about 24 people. There is small open area perfect for tossing the ball around. The Anoka Police Department is currently fundraising to create a memorial statue of Bravo.
GEORGE ENLOE PARK - 631 Lund Blvd
This 23-acre park provides opportunities for year-round recreational activities including baseball, pickleball, and tennis in the summer and sledding and skating in the winter. The large accessible playground has poured in place rubber fall surfacing, providing easy maneuverability for people with mobility issues, and includes play components designed to enhance social and physical play.
GEORGE GREEN PARK - 1498 6th Ave
Large Bur Oaks provide a serene setting for the bicentennial band shell and summer Concerts in the Park program. The park includes several tennis courts, a large playground, the Anoka Senior Center, and Anoka Aquatic Center facilities.
JOHN WARD PARK - 2400 Forest Ave
This park is commonly referred to as “Rocket Park” due to the large rocket-shaped playground structure. The first rocket was installed in the late 1960s; since then, two additional rocket-themed playground structures have been included in the park. This 14-acre park serves as one of Anoka’s most heavily used community play fields, with the city’s only skate park, picnic shelter with cooking grills (seating for approximately 50), and three softball fields (two with lights).
MISSISSIPPI RIVER COMMUNITY PARK - 2751 Cutters Grove Ave
This 18-acre community park is directly adjacent to the Mississippi River. It incorporates the natural beauty of a wooded floodplain area with passive recreation, including a 1.7-mile paved trail through a beautiful natural prairie flower area. This is a great location for family picnics, graduation parties, and weddings!
PENINSULA POINT TWO RIVERS HISTORIC PARK - 1460 Ferry Rd
Located at the confluence of the Rum and Mississippi Rivers, this historical park is known in the history books as the “Gathering Place in Fireman’s Grove.” In 1995, the city took possession of the site, transforming it from a sewage treatment plant to a pristine park. Cut stone from the original 1850s St. Paul County Courthouse has been integrated into the landscaping elements throughout the park. The park has won national recognition for its design and incorporation of historic elements.
RIVERFRONT MEMORIAL PARK - 2201 2nd Ave
The existing dam, built in 1941, attracts thousands of tourists and residents who enjoy the river walk and fishing. The handicapped accessible boat dock provides boaters with access to downtown businesses. Park features include the Veterans Memorial Plaza and stage, picnic area, scenic overlook, shops, eating & drinking establishments, walking trails, fishing, boating access to downtown, and canoe access.
RUDY JOHNSON PARK
This community park includes a brand new year-round building with a shelter that can be rented for small gatherings. Additional amenities include a large playground, ¼ mile walking loop, an irrigated playfield, and a multi-use hard surface court with a full basketball court and lines for three pickle ball courts for use with your own net. In the winter, the building will be used as a warming house for a small hockey rink.
SUNNY ACRES PARK - 3399 Colfax Ave
This 33.7-acre park includes athletic fields for baseball/softball and soccer, tennis and pickleball courts, a walking trail, large playground, picnic shelter, and pavilion.
Trails
RUM RIVER REGIONAL TRAIL
The Anoka section of this scenic trail begins at Akin Riverside Park, 1721 River Avenue, and ends at the Anoka Nature Preserve. The trail follows the Rum River for four miles, providing many scenic views of the Rum River as it meanders through downtown Anoka, north past the North Star Rail Station, Historic State Hospital grounds, Anoka High School, and Rum River Library. The Rum River Regional Trail provides connections to the Mississippi River Regional Trail and Central Anoka County Regional Trail. The Rum River Trail is cleared of snow in the winter, making it a year-round destination.
MISSISSIPPI RIVER REGIONAL TRAIL (MRT)
Minnesota’s Mississippi River Regional Trail winds 620 miles downriver from Itasca State Park to the Iowa border. The trail uses existing trails and on-road sections, and in the metro area, you may choose to follow an alignment on either side of the river. Anoka’s section takes you through King's Island and Mississippi River Community Park, on road at Benton Street to Ferry Street. At Ferry Street, choose to cross the Rum River into Akin Riverside Park where you may continue on the MRT in Anoka County or cross the Mississippi River and follow the MRT in Hennepin County. The majority of the route is posted, or you may download trail sections map from dot.state.mn.us./bike/MRT. Anoka’s map can be found in the Metro Region maps.
